This past weekend, my friend Kathryn and I went to the Soldier Hollow Classic, a sheepdog championship and in all other ways dog-tastic time. If you're wondering what a sheepdog championship is, check this out:
It doesn't seem like it would be that interesting, but it IS! We watched all kinds of people -women, men, women who looked like men - as they stepped up to the plate and showed what their border collie could do. It was incredible. The most impressive duo was BY FAR Dennis and Jan. They were 2 time national champions, and it showed.
Also, there was a dog-diving competition. All these dogs would be at the end of a platform that led into a pool, and the owner would throw their favorite toy into the water. The dog would run and jump as far as it could to get the toy, and it would be measured. My favorite was the chubby yellow lab who was SO EXCITED TO GET HER TOY that she couldn't wait - the owner had to DRAG her back so she could get a running start.
There was also a dog sledding demonsration by Pawsatch snow dogs.
AND a police dog demonstration. Where the police dogs freaking TACKLED people.
Man, I love dogs.
Anyway, just wanted to share.
Also, I ate navajo fry bread. YUMMM!!!!
